A Self-led Retreat, an Explorers paradise, or both.

The Tree of Life Cottage

Wild enough to free you. Quiet enough to restore you.

It provides both a quiet peaceful space away from modern life, with easy access to all major North Wales attractions, whilst offering self-led, therapeutic based retreats designed for mental health and wellbeing, healing and connection with the natural world and its rhythm. Nestled in panoramic views of mountains, forests and open skies, wildlife, ponies, and the spirit of nature, The Tree of Life Cottage and its environment will capture your heart and reconnect you with what it truly feels like to be alive.

The Tree of Life Cottage was originally part of an old working granary, blacksmiths forge and stable. After extensive refurbishment it is now home to your hosts Sarah and Martin, a small herd of horses, resident owls, buzzards, bats and a vast array of seasonal birds, insects and the occasional break in from local gangs of sheep! Set in 5 acres, surrounded by open fields and mountains in the Conwy Valley. The land has a small woodland walk for nature bathing, meditation, mindfulness or simply being in nature. There is a stone circle that has been created to offer a space for teaching, education, and a range of contemporary therapeutic practises. There are further dedicated areas within the fields and paddocks to observe the horses for equine facilitated experiential learning, mindfulness, meditation and relaxation practise.

The Tree of Life Cottage — feel wildly free or deeply restored

The Tree of Life Cottage is perfect for anyone wanting to retreat from the chaos of life and relax peacefully in a sanctuary of natural beauty, or to enjoy easy access to adrenaline-fuelled experiences, discovery and exploration.

As a retreat

By day

Meditate inside or out with the horses, walk mindfully, paint, read, write or simply “just be” in this idyllic haven of tranquillity. An orchestra of birds, distant sheep and grazing horses fills the air. Listen to the gentle mountain breeze dancing through the leaves of the giant oaks, ash and birch, soothing the soul and allowing mind and body to rest with the natural rhythm of the land.

By night

Snuggle into a cosy blanket beneath the expansive, mystical night sky. Notice constellations, planets and stars shining against the inky blue, behind silhouettes of mountains, trees and hedgerows. Listen as an owl glides through the velvet air and its call echoes across the undulating Conwy Valley. Watch the starlit horses gently rest as your breathing mirrors their soft, slow breath—or simply take it all in through the cottage’s large windows and peaceful interior.

Adventure, explore and discover

Create your own unforgettable experience when you stay with us. Fly high above Penrhyn Quarry, journey deep inside Eryri’s mountains or feel the rush of karting down slate-mountain tracks. Zip World, around 20 minutes from the cottage, offers one of the most exciting adventure days out in the UK. Kayaking, white-water rafting and many other water sports and outdoor activities are also within easy reach.

Cycling

Bring your bicycle and access world-class cycling across dramatic mountain passes, flat coastal paths and dedicated forest mountain-bike centres. Gwydir Mawr and Bach (formerly the Marin Trail) are a 20-minute drive away, Coed-y-Brenin is just over a 1-hour drive south, and for the really adventurous the Antur Stiniog downhill centre is 45-minutes away near Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Walking & hiking

Undoubtedly one of the UK’s most scenic areas, Eryri National Park is a picturesque playground for walkers and hiking enthusiasts seeking natural beauty, fresh air and memorable experiences ranging from relaxed to challenging. From the cottage or within a short drive, climb Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), discover Aber Falls, Conwy Mountain, the Tal y Fan circular route, Rowen, Eigiau Slate Quarry, Conwy Waterfront, the Great Orme and the towns and coastlines of North Wales.

Castles, houses & gardens

North Wales is widely known as the Land of Castles, from UNESCO-listed medieval marvels such as Conwy and Caernarfon castles to romantic ruins and historic strongholds including Penrhyn and Chirk castles. There are also many historic houses, buildings and gardens to visit: explore the terraces of Bodnant Garden, discover Plas Newydd’s stories and views over the Menai Strait, or visit the smallest house in Great Britain in the medieval walled town of Conwy.

These are only suggestions. We invite you to take time to discover everything available in this beautiful countryside and create your perfect experience at The Tree of Life Cottage in Henryd, North Wales.
